About spellings & the 104 sounds
46 basic entries + 25 voiced and P entries + 33 combined entries. Some entries sound alike: お / を, じ / ぢ and ず / づ. Either spelling is accepted for those sounds.
Romaji accepts common alternatives, such as shi / si, chi / ti, tsu / tu, fu / hu and sha / sya. The sound ん accepts n / nn. These are sound recognition questions, so di / ji and du / zu also count for the matching sounds.
